Sex Addiction Therapy in New Jersey

Trauma-Informed Treatment for Sex Addiction, Pornography Addiction, and Betrayal Trauma

At The Kraft Group Inc, we provide compassionate, confidential, and trauma-informed therapy for individuals, couples, and families affected by sex addiction, compulsive sexual behaviors, pornography addiction, infidelity, and betrayal trauma.

Sex addiction is often misunderstood as simply a behavioral issue. In reality, compulsive sexual behaviors are frequently rooted in unresolved trauma, attachment wounds, emotional pain, shame, anxiety, depression, or difficulties with emotional regulation. Our goal is to help clients understand the underlying causes of their behaviors while building healthier coping strategies, stronger relationships, and lasting recovery.

Located in Florham Park, New Jersey, The Kraft Group Inc serves clients throughout Morris County and across New Jersey through both in-person and virtual therapy services.

What is Sex Addiction?

Sex addiction, also referred to as compulsive sexual behavior, is characterized by persistent sexual thoughts, urges, or behaviors that become difficult to control despite negative consequences. These behaviors may interfere with relationships, work performance, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life.

Sex addiction can involve:

  • Compulsive pornography use

  • Chronic infidelity

  • Excessive use of dating or hookup applications

  • Risky sexual behaviors

  • Obsessive sexual thoughts

  • Secretive sexual activities

  • Escalating sexual behaviors over time

Many individuals struggling with sex addiction experience significant shame, guilt, anxiety, depression, and emotional distress. Effective treatment focuses not only on stopping problematic behaviors but also on addressing the emotional and psychological factors driving them.

Common Signs of Sex Addiction:

You may benefit from professional support if you:

  • Feel unable to control sexual behaviors

  • Frequently promise yourself you will stop but continue engaging in the behavior

  • Experience relationship difficulties due to sexual behaviors

  • Use sexual behaviors to cope with stress, loneliness, anxiety, or emotional pain

  • Spend excessive amounts of time viewing pornography

  • Experience shame, guilt, or secrecy surrounding sexual behaviors

  • Neglect important responsibilities because of compulsive sexual behaviors

  • Continue behaviors despite negative personal or professional consequences

Seeking help is not a sign of weakness. It is often the first step toward meaningful healing and long-term recovery.

Our Treatment Approach:

At The Kraft Group Inc, we recognize that addiction and compulsive behaviors rarely exist in isolation. We understand any kind of addiction has an underlying cause. Sex Addiction often stems from childhood dysfunction and trauma. Our staff is trained to identify and heal the underlying pain that fuels sex addiction, in a non-judgemental, highly confidential space. We work with clients in a compassionate manner to help them understand their addiction, and the impact it has had on their life—including family, health, work etc...

Our treatment approach focuses on:

  • Understanding underlying emotional triggers

  • Exploring attachment patterns and relationship dynamics

  • Addressing trauma and unresolved pain

  • Developing healthy coping strategies

  • Improving emotional regulation

  • Reducing shame and self-criticism

  • Strengthening accountability and recovery support systems

  • Rebuilding self-esteem and personal integrity

  • Creating healthier relationships and boundaries

Treatment is individualized and tailored to each client's unique history, goals, and recovery journey.

Clients will learn healthy vs. unhealthy sexual behaviors. We work on teaching the individual how to tolerate their feelings and regulate emotions, instead of self medicating by sexually acting out. The goal after a short period of abstinence is to teach clients how to re-engage in their sexual health, build emotional intimacy, and recovery plan.

Since most intimacy disorders stem from trauma, we utilize a trauma focused approach during treatment. Our team utilizes the training of Dr. Patrick and Stefanie Carnes— founders of Sex Addiction and Betrayal Trauma treatment. Our group practice is able to work with multiple family members, including children, if appropriate. We also work with clients and their partners when the time comes to develop healthy sexual relationships, following the Patrick Carnes training and models of healthy sexuality.

The Impact of Sex Addiction on Relationships

Sex addiction often affects far more than the individual experiencing the behavior. Partners and family members frequently experience significant emotional pain, confusion, anger, grief, and loss of trust.

Common relationship concerns include:

  • Infidelity and broken trust

  • Emotional disconnection

  • Communication difficulties

  • Intimacy challenges

  • Chronic conflict

  • Feelings of betrayal

  • Shame and secrecy within the relationship

Healing often requires support for both the individual and the relationship itself.

Betrayal Trauma Support for Partners

Discovering a partner's sexual behaviors, pornography use, affairs, or ongoing deception can create profound emotional distress. Many partners experience symptoms similar to post-traumatic stress, including hypervigilance, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, sleep difficulties, emotional numbness, and loss of safety within the relationship.

At The Kraft Group Inc, we provide specialized betrayal trauma counseling to help partners:

  • Process painful emotions

  • Rebuild self-confidence

  • Establish healthy boundaries

  • Reduce anxiety and trauma symptoms

  • Regain emotional stability

  • Make informed decisions about the future of their relationship

We believe that partners deserve their own support, healing, and recovery process.

Gottman-Informed Couples Counseling

For couples seeking to repair and rebuild their relationship, The Kraft Group Inc incorporates principles from The Gottman Institute into treatment.

The Gottman Method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy that helps partners:

  • Improve communication

  • Reduce conflict

  • Rebuild trust after betrayal

  • Strengthen emotional connection

  • Increase relationship satisfaction

  • Develop healthier relationship patterns

  • Improve emotional safety and intimacy

Leigh Kolodny-Kraft combines trauma-informed care with Gottman-informed relationship interventions to help couples navigate recovery, rebuild trust, and strengthen their connection.
